The Chemical Receptacle is used to house an NaOH (or stronger Base) when performing oxygen consumption studies.
The function of the Base material is to scavenge the CO2 produced by the aerobic metabolism.
This produces a negative pressure as the O2 is consumed and the resulting production of CO2 reacts with the Base
